It's a just a shame it's from one of several big games where Suarez didn't score and ended up on the losing side.
It's a good example of the world class ability Suarez has in his locker but not good enough to back up some people's opinion that he is the 3rd best player in the world and the best striker in the world.
Falcao scored a hat-trick in a win vs Chelsea, Lewandowski scored a hat-trick in a win vs Madrid. This season Costa scored the winner vs Madrid and Rossi scored a hat-trick in a win vs Juventus. Last year at this stage of the season RVP scored in wins vs Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City.
The debate about whether he's a better 'footballer' than the players I just mentioned is for another day/thread but this is the end product in the big games that Suarez has to achieve to justify this best striker in the world talk and maybe when he joins Madrid he'll do it for a whole season but right now it's not happening.
And how many of the players you just mentioned were playing at a team similar to the level of Liverpool when they achieved those feats?
People saying he's the best striker in the world are going too far in my opinion, I'd say he's in the next tier down.
I could counter your suggestion RVP is a big game player by questioning his record at major tournaments. He's scored 4 goals at 3 major international tournaments which is as many as Suarez scored in the Copa America whilst leading his team to the title and picking up the player of the tournament award.
Suarez also scored 3 goals at the last World Cup whereas RVP scored once despite playing every game in the tournament right up to the final, does that count for anything?
It's not the way you're rating these players that I take issue with it's how the criteria changes as and when it suits, maybe we should bring Rooney's record into the discussion and see how it matches up with your opinion that he's detrimental to Man Utd?

Over the years, on and off here I've seen strikers denied world class/best in the world/GOAT status because they didn't score or drag their team to victory in the big games on a consistent basis so why has Suarez been given a free pass this year?
For the record I rate Suarez and enjoy watching him play when he's at his best and counting how many nutmegs he does per game but I just disagree with the opinion that he deserved to win the pfa award last season and that he's currently best striker in the world.

You see for all this talk of forum progress some man chop and change when certain criteria applies, I touched on it when Porchy made some quip about Suarez struggling against City which he later said was actually a joke.
Against City Suarez was amongst the very best players on the park and played better than he has in games where's he's bagged 2 or 3 goals but you have to look at his performance in the context of the game rather than solely at the match details.
Pellegrini had said beforehand that there would be no special arrangement to deal with Suarez, I then saw an interview with Kompany where he was asked about coming up against Suarez and he was open about really liking one to one battles against the best forwards. Within the first 20 minutes it was clear that either Pellegrini was bluffing or Kompany had other ideas as he followed Suarez around the park.

Suarez likes to turn and run at defenders head on and is notoriously known for always being on the move, you'll often see him start a move in one area of the pitch and apply the finishing touch in another a matter of seconds later, what was good about his performance against City was that he adjusted to who he was playing against and did what worked best for the team.

if you skip to 24:00 you'll see Kompany come through the back of Suarez prior to him slipping Sterling in. A scandalously bad decision robbed him of a potential assist.
Go to 25:48 and you'll see Kompany again come through the back of him this time before the ball is played but the ref doesn't give an obvious free kick.
He's visibly pissed but continues adjusting to exploit Kompany's willingness to follow him around.
Go to 27:45 and you'll see Suarez receive the ball in to feet, anticipate Kompany coming behind him and play it straight back into feet but rather than spin off as he normally does he stays where he is which creates space for our overlap.
Go to 28:05 and again watch as he drags Kompany with him, anticipates the contact and plays a quick pass off his chest.
If you go to 28:36 you'll see Suarez then goes to play on Lescott but looking at the image below it's clear that Kompany's main concern is still cutting off the supply to Suarez. He's showing Coutinho the inside which is obviously the most dangerous area because he doesn't want him to play it into Suarez who is running into a wider area that is occupied by Zabaleta and Lescott.
Coutinho plays it into Allen who's heavy touch was all that prevented him from having a good chance in on goal, Suarez didn't touch the ball but he was largely responsible for the space created for the half chance.
A minute later we got our goal with Suarez again instrumental in creating the space for our midfield runners to get into.
At this point Kompany had seen his eagerness to get really tight to Suarez work against him which is perhaps why he decided to stand off him a little more but he's still fixated on Suarez.
Kompany sees the oncoming run of Coutinho but as soon as the ball is played into Suarez he loses sight of anything else, a little flick around the corner from Suarez and we suddenly have two midfield runners in acres. Neither the assist or goal will be credited to Suarez but nobody can deny he was instrumental.
If you skip to 39:20 we again see Suarez coming deep and Kompany following him which opens up space for Coutinho to drop a ball into Henderson which was slightly overhit.
In the move which led to the save by Joe Hart Suarez was again involved and played a similar ball that led to our goal whilst drawing Kompany in.
After defending our corner his willingness to chase balls down set us off on another counter attack with a ball into Coutinho.
Anyone who's played ball knows that it's easy to get wrapped up in your own personal battle and feel like you have to settle the score in the most visible fashion, in the case of Suarez playing against Kompany that would be something like nutmegging him or putting him on his arse which is what people have come to expect of him. The problem with playing up to that is that you can easily lose sight of what you can do for the team. Kompany is often cited as the most important player for City because they seem more assured in defence when he plays as he compensates for some of their weaker defensive players, time and time again Suarez used his presence to open up the game for his team mates.
It wasn't the typical Suarez performance but just because he didn't nutmeg someone on five separate occasions it doesn't make it any less of a performance, had his team mates taken some of the chances he created for them his performance would probably have been looked upon more favourably but that's how a result can cloud people's judgement of performance.
